Changes to the Test from 14th Feb Apply On-line

Licence Categories A, A1, M (Motorcycles)
 
1. Oral Test.
In addition to questions on the Rules of the Road you will be asked a question concerning;-
(a) rear observation, (b) road position, (c ) skidding.

2. Communications Equipment.
Motorcycle tests will be carried out using radio controls. Equipment will be provided at the test centre and advice given on the use of the equipment.

3. Safety Equipment.
You will be asked to confirm that safety equipment, (gloves, boots, weather-gear) and in particular the helmet, is properly adjusted.

4. Technical Checks.
You will be asked how a check would be performed on any three of the following-
(a) tyres, (b) lights, including dipping the headlight, (c ) reflectors, (d) indicators,
(e) brakes, (f) steering, (g) oil-level, (h) chain, (i) horn, or  (j) emergency stop switch if fitted.
The tester will inspect the brake-lights and indicators.

5. Off/On Stand.
You will be asked to put the machine off and back on its stand. A side-stand is acceptable for this purpose.

6. Walk Alongside.
You will be asked to move the machine approximately 4/5 metres without the aid of the engine. The machine may be moved forward or backward.

Licence Categories B (Car), EB (Car with Trailer) and W  (Work Vehicle)


Technical Checks.
You will be asked to explain how a check would be performed on any three of the following-
(a) tyres, (b) lights, (c) reflectors, (d) indicators, (e) engine oil, (f) coolant,
(g) windscreen washer fluid, (h) steering, (i) brakes, (j) horn.   

Access to some of the items listed above will require you to open the bonnet and to close it securely.


Licence Categories C1, C, EC1 and  EC (Truck and Truck with Trailer)

1. Oral Test.
In addition to questions on the Rules of the Road you will be asked a question concerning;-
(a) When, where, and how to use the red warning triangle.
(b) What to be aware of when planning a journey.

2. Technical Checks.
You will be asked to explain how a check would be performed on any three of the following;-
(a) tyres, (b) lights, (c)  reflectors, (d) indicators, (e) engine oil, (f) coolant,  (g) windscreen washer-fluid, (h)  power-assisted braking system, (i) power-assisted steering system, (j) horn.

Access to some of the items listed above will require you to open the bonnet, or to open/close panels. However, the cab should not be tilted.


Licence Category D1, D, ED1 and ED (Bus and Bus with Trailer)

1. Oral Test.
In addition to questions on the Rules of the Road you will be asked a question concerning;-
(a) when, where and how to use the red warning triangle,
(b)  what to be aware of when planning a journey,
(c) what to be aware of when driving on a road which has a steep camber.

2.Technical Checks.
You will be asked to explain how a check would be performed on any three of the following;-
(a) tyres, (b) lights, (c) reflectors, (d) indicators, (e) engine oil, (f) coolant, (g) windscreen-washer fluid, (h) power-assisted steering system, (i)  power-assisted braking system, (j) horn.

Access to some of the items listed above will require you to open the bonnet, or to open/close panels.
